I spent all last weekend hopelessly trying to upload a video of my rendition of Cindi Lauper's "All Through The Night". Then mid Sunday my internet crashed, and has been going in and out sporatically every since. During this absence I have skipped a disturbing scene I encountered last Saturday Morning.
I woke up at about 9:00 wanting a cigarette. I walked to the gas station where I decided I would substitute my normal work- two cups of coffee- routine for a Red Bull. Afterwards I got in line behind a jogging suit wearing good looking lady. She was talking to the attendant, and though I could barely hear it, the conversation ended with the Middle Eastern, or Pakistani cashier doing a playful karate chop behind his plexi glass window to the girl. At that point I figured they were talking martial arts. My thought was proven correct when he told me, "She does Karate".
At this I still half asleep joked stupidly "I never had the focus for karate", then asked him for a pack of Marlboro Lights. He was still smiling from being smitten by the karate vixen, reached down, grabbed my cigarettes, pushed them through the window and said, "You have the focus for these".
At 9:05 I walked out of the Exxon, lit up a cigarette and pondered the whole way home which was worse:
A) Smoking....obviously. Probably the Red Bull also.
or
B) Feeling horrible about such an early morning 'burn'. I mean I did set myself up, but wow did he hit a home run.
Needless to say, I have been too ashamed to go back in there.

This is the greatest.
Go back to Exxon and tell that guy that you have quit smoking and are spending all of the extra money on Karate lessons. Then tell him you'll be back in a month to kick his ass for the weak comment he made regarding your addiction. After that, walk to the liquor store and buy a pack of cigarrettes.
But seriously Pete, you should quit.
