Hello Everyone!

Yes I am back... and my how things have changed!

I recently (2 weeks ago) acquired 2 brother kittens, Mel and Harvey. They are both orange and crazy, with claws that they can climb up your pants with, and absolutely no respect for my personal safety.

They sleep on my chest about half of the night and the rest of the time try to find ways to wake me up, until I am up, and then they want to sleep again. And the poop that these two produce...holey moley, like a litter box full every other day, it is ridiculous.

But I am having a great time and enjoy the company. I keep whispering in their ears to attack anyone who enters that is not me, but don't worry... people came over this weekend and they were complete pansies. (by pansies I mean adorable, the kind of kittens mice aren't afraid of).

Anyway, I am really studying their personalities...so here goes:

Mel: Sweet, lovable, and cute. The calmer of the two cats and if I was an old lady, the better. He is respectful, tends to not enjoy knocking stuff over, will back away when I tell him he is not needed in the bathroom with a slow brushing of my foot, and has two coats of hair one that is a soft short cut, and then another longer cut, and looks like a little fuzzball when the light is just right. He likes to sleep near my chin and enjoys licking my closed eyelid for some reason. He fights well, but normally does not provoke Harvey.

And Harvey: A real jerk. He is constantly looking to destroy things and make a racket. He will hide behind the toilet when I am trying to push him out of the bathroom. If I stop him before he slides behind the toilet he will wait for my foot to push him back as far as my balance allows and as soon as I stop he starts back in again. He also will wait for Mel to be distracted and then jump on his back and wrestle him to the ground. Once on the ground he will jump in the air, do a 180 and land on top of Mel, and bite his ear until Mel whines. I have seen on a number of occasions Harvey attack Mel in the litterbox. Harvey is also fearless and the more curious of the two. Harvey prefers licking my nose and earlobes.

That is enough about my cats for right now, I am sure there will be more stories to follow.

75 Holes Of Golf!

Pat, Andrew and I embarked on an amazing journey on Monday.

Hog Neck Golf Course allows it's financially challenged golf enthusiasts a cheap alternative to the typical golf outing. We partook... in a big way.

On Monday morning my alarm sounded at 6:00, and I didn't hit snooze like I have grown accustomed to. Instead I strolled into the shower to wake myself up, brushed my teef, grabbed my golf bag and made my way to our meeting place.

When there, I knocked on the door and Andrew was eating a bowl of cereal. He let me in and as I opened the door, Pat's car rounded the corner and parked. Andrew grabbed the cooler and his golf bag and we met Pat. We all piled into the Honda and took off at roughly 6:30am.

Our drive to the course was uneventful, but once at the course we were met only by an empty parking lot and a putting greenskeeper. He told us that someone should be here shortly to let us start and we could practice on the chipping green. No problem. That gave us time to determine betting-
$1 per round to the winner, tie carries over to next round.
$5 to person with the best score for 1 round.
$5 to the person with the best overall score.

Pat and I chunked a few balls around and Andrew went to the car for his golf shoes. About 5 minutes later we saw movement and made our way back to the pro shop. There was movement, but it was the kind of movement of a crotchety golf course worker who found it more important to set up shop than to open it and let us begin our round. Eventually the second Assistant Pro Matt showed up and let us in.

Matt is an old acquaintance who has been working at the club for many years now. He asked us where we wanted to play, and we said (or thought) in unison "Executive Course Unlimited...With A Cart!" He took our money and told us that there was a Senior Round scheduled at 7:30, and that we would have to probably wait until 10 or so for our second round.

Side note for anyone not familiar with Hog Neck GC... there are two courses, one is the Executive (9 holes...easy Par 32) and the other is the Championship Course (18 holes...hard Par 36 (per 9)).

I asked Matt, "Would it be crazy talk to maybe play the front 9 of the other course while the Seniors are playing?" to which he didn't reply with a definite answer.

So we thanked him, and took off never telling him how we were going to play as long as the sun would allow.

The first Round was relatively uneventful, just three dudes getting their swang down. On the 8th Pat suggested that we go back and play 7 and 8 again, because the seniors were way behind us, it was 2 more holes we could get in, and no one was looking. We did, nice work Pat (otherwise we would have only played 73, and that is a stupid number).

Scores After First 9 (not including the extra 2 holes)
Pat- 48 Andrew- 43 Pete- 40

Then, god shined a light down on us in the form of Pat somehow coercing Matt into letting us play the Championship Course.

Like Champions we moved to the real course for our next 9
Pat- 49 Andrew- 52 Pete- 47

Then, we went back to the Executive, and Matt was teaching an eight-some of older ladies, and told us we could go through. to which we replied that we would start on hole #2. One of the ladies yelled "Hey Andrew" to Andrew as we drove by to the second hole.

The second round was a mix of the 8 holes we played, plus the 2 we added on the first round.
Pat- 46 Andrew- 45 Pete- 44

Then we stopped and Pat had a chili, Andrew and I grabbed a sandwich out of the car and we started again on the 4th round.
Pat- 38 Andrew- 46 Pete- 39

Straight to the 5th.
Pat- 40 Andrew- 38 Pete- 38

Then we stopped for chili and I had a chili dog. Then to the 6th ($2 carryover round!).
Pat- 48 Andrew- 42 Pete- 34

Then I stopped again for a chili dog (those things are so good), and Pat got some crackers, and onto the 7th.
Pat- 41 Andrew- 39 Pete- 38

Then the 8th.

At the second hole Pat was confronted by a ranger who accusatorally questioned "You can be honest, I won't kick you off, but you guys just came off of the other course to play an extra round, right" To which Pat replied "We have been here since 7:00 this morning, and we paid for unlimited." It was about 6:45pm at that point. Confused, he told Pat to make sure the carts were in by 8:30. Sweet! 2 more rounds.
Pat- 42 Andrew- 39 Pete- 49

When rounding the corner to start the next round at approximately 7:45 we ran into the ranger again. My first instinct was to look at my score card and try not to notice him, but when I noticed how ridiculous that course of action was, I looked up and said, "We have to be in by 8:30 right?", and he grumbled, "You can play 1 and 2"
Pat- 8 Andrew-8 Pete-7

The Awesomes

The sound isn't important nor the lighting, nor the remembering of lyrics...

At some point during the song the camera pans over to a group of young girls dancing in the next yard over. This is the frenzy that The Awesomes cause. Good luck making it that far. This is excruciating.

Okay, Not One Holla (comment)

I am thinking it might be because this contest may seem impossible... but it isn't.

Here are some rules.

1. Tournament Style- Single Elimination.

2. Buy all necessities on Sunday (Food, Transportation...Gas, Mass Transit Cards, Baby Diapers, etc.) and save the receipt.

3. Sleep Sunday night, and wake up Monday keeping track of how much you spend until Friday.

Any questions/interest?

Questions From The Public

Anonymous Andrew said...

where are the awesomes videos at?

Good Question (minus the whole ending it in a preposition)!

We are deep in a moment of "Rounding Up" the information, and I will get that to you shortly. Thank you for your interest.

While we are waiting...
I am working on a way to quantify my life. I have for the 7 billion millionth time begun a serious attempt at quitting smoking. A spreadsheet has already been set up to figure out just how much money I will be spending daily weekly, monthly, etc on various necessities so that I can begin to really determine that which needs to be spent, and that which I am spending moronically.

So that is that.

But I am going one step further just to keep myself a well oiled, and balanced machine...

I am starting another spreadsheet that will determine everything not related to money. On this spreadsheet I will list exercise, reading, television viewing, movie watching, general creative hobbies, phone usage, amount of time spent preparing food, amount of time doing daily chores, amount of time blogging, sleeping etc. etc. and I am going to somehow figure out a formula that will determine how happy I am.

For example, I don't like my frequent television viewing, so therefore weighing hours watching television against hours reading and writing on my blog will help determine the "Lazy Quotient" and "Work Quotient" will be determined by how much I am getting done in a small time.

Anyway, that is what I am working on Blog audience, but as you see it is just a theory as of yet. I have food to prepare, and chores to achieve.

Pretty pathetic, now that I look back. We'll see how long this lasts.

Justice... Committee Style

So I told you about the justice committee.

We rode today.

Fay, my VP and Treasurer brought in water guns. Little Dollar Store Jobbers, easily concealable and shot a good distance. The only drawback was the leaking, but what can you expect when you get 6 for a dollar.

We sat and waited all day, and watched the injustice pile up until about 4:00 when our intended target took to Cube Aisle.

It all started with a Jamaican Me Crazy sales rally a fortnight ago, where dress was casual and managerial torment was devious. Susie and Sandra (names changed to protect the guilty) had decided to fill up water balloons on Thursday, to attack on Friday.

She's had it in for us ever since we started ruling the office.

Laugh Laugh "Pete you should sit back down on the bench" laugh laugh, so I did...they were managers. But as I did I realized why everything was so funny to them, and next thing I saw was a cloud of neon colored water balloons dropping like turkey tears on Thanksgiving.

SPLASH "ONE HIT ME" IEEEEE "DUCK... NO JUMP"

It was brutal. My flip flops are still soaked.

So today, Fay and I waited patiently for a window, and at roughly 4:00PM EST she emailed me, and we rode. Sandra was instructing Janice on how to accomplish something (probably stupid, most likely irrelevant), and when she turned around their was an expression of bewilderment. Then fear. Then she was liquidated and with a jump back, and a sprint to her office... the room cheered and did the wave, and Justice Prevailed.

Susie left early...she'll get hers tomorrow in the AM.

Three Dead Mice, See How They Die

This is an old story (months ago), but beautifully disturbing-

Back before there was a blog, I noticed that I had a serious mouse problem in my apartment.

I had read somewhere that a good way to humanely dispose of mice was to:

A) get an empty paper towel roll
B) place food in one end (parmesian cheese because I am traditional)
C) balance the roll half on your kitchen counter
D) place something the mouse cannot get out of where the paper towel roll will fall
E) displace said mice

I could hear them scurrying around one night while I was watching television. I promptly rushed to the kitchen and took action. I set up the trap and the bait and went back to the tv room.
30 minutes or so later I heard a little crash and ran into the kitchen. I noticed the paper towel roll had fallen into the trash can, and saw the little sucker hiding under it.

Now... I knew that there were other mice, so I emptied my laundry bin and placed it on the floor, then got the trash can and brought it to the bin.

I carefully tipped the trash can with one hand and held the lid of the laundry bin with the other (the laundry bin was more of a tub really). Anyway the mouse slowly slid down the side of the trash can, and just before it fell into the tub... it did an Indiana Jonesesque leap over the tub and back onto my floor.

I was only a little disheartened as I had to give him props for the timing it took to narrowly avoid capture.

I then repeated my steps in the kitchen and went back to the tv room to wait.

About 30 minutes later I heard the same crash and went back to the kitchen. Once again, there was a mouse, but this time it was jumping around frantically in the trash can. I removed the paper towel roll and thought about what I should do.

My friend Will called luckily, and I told him the situation.
"Give the mouse a little alcohol to calm him down" Will suggested. He said that beer would get it woozy enough to just fall right into the tub.
"All I have is Rum?"
"Make sure you don't give it too much or you'll kill it" we agreed.

I am not one to dump liquor into an empty trash can, so I grabbed a zip lock bag and put about a half a shot of rum in, and and softened it with a little coke.

I then sealed the bag mostly shut and placed it in the trashcan, and waited for the mouse to take interest, but it was just too scared.

It was starting to get a little late, so I decided I would have to be a little tougher on my visitor.

I grabbed the trash can and instead of trying not to hurt the mouse this time, I jerked it to throw it off balance and dumped the mouse into the tub, with the rum and coke bag, and shut the lid.

(I also threw in some bird seed, I figured it might be hungry)

I then set the trap again, brushed my teeth and went to bed.

Sometime in the middle of the night I woke up to the sound of a thud and mouse claws scratching the inside of my trash can. Somehow I laughed myself to sleep thinking of this little mouse in it's holding cell.

The next morning the first thing I did was go to the kitchen. I took the mouse that was in the trash can and dumped him into the tub.

It was at this time that I noticed the other mouse was acting a little strange.

Seems it had been drinking all night... and all it could do was circle around the tub, falling over every fourth or fifth step.

Pretty funny really, but I also thought it was a little cruel, got some tupperware and filled it with water, in case the mouse was dehydrated, and put a spare toilet paper roll in the tub in case it needed to sleep. I then took a shower.

When I got out of the shower I checked on the mice. One was hiding in the toilet paper roll and the other had stopped circling and was just laying there. First I thought it was dead, so I sprinkled some water on it, and it woke up, but then laid back down. "Sleep it off buddy, you will be awake, sober and free when I get home..." I thought as I left.

I gave them some more bird seed, and this time also sprinkled in some Parmesan cheese in the tub. Then I went back to the kitchen, set the trap again... and left for work.

I told everyone at work how awesome I was, and we all had a laugh about the drunken mouse that was sleeping off a tough night.

At about 6 o'clock I returned to my apartment.

First thing I noticed when I got in was that the paper towel roll had fallen from the counter, which meant that I had trapped a third mouse. I figured that it would be a good idea to displace the first two before adding another, and walked to the tub.

When I looked in, I noticed that sometime during the day the sober mouse had eaten the drunken mouse's face off...literally, and all that was left was a little bloody body.

For some reason that infuriated me, and I grabbed the water dish out of the tub, and dumped out the water. I found the lid and walked back to the tub.

"Paybacks you murderer" I thought, as I punched air holes in the lid. I then grabbed the mouse, toilet paper roll, and put it in the tupperware and clamped the lid tightly. I walked out to the trash can and placed the jailed mouse in with the trash.

I figured it would have a long miserable, confined life there in it's tupperware jail cell, gnawing on toilet paper roll to sustain itself, a fitting end for the horrible opportunistic piece of mouse trash that it was.

I was laughing the laugh of justice when I reentered my apartment. Unfortunately I realized that I still had a mouse jumping around in the trash can. I was tired of playing with mice at that point and figured I would carefully release my new captive onto the fire escape, where it could scurry down safely to freedom (and it would be so grateful that it would never come back).

Sadly I misjudged the third mouse's intelligence, because as soon as it slid out of the trash can it took three quick steps and lunged off of my third floor fire escape.

So three mice caught, three mice horribly tortured and murdered.

My landlord a few weeks later put some poison around the building, and luckily I haven't had the displeasure of "humanely exterminating" any more mice.

The Justice Committee

Thank you for your comments, and sorry about the delay on the posts, it will probably happen again...

I have had such a crazy couple a weeks, but mostly my internet was out.

Yesterday my friend and I formed The Justice Committee at work. I printed out a flier that stated our agenda-
1. Better Ways to Spend Your Lunch Break
2. Smoker Harassment...Has it Gone Too far?
3. New Ways to Eradicate Workplace Yawning.
4. Injustice... Is it Necessary?

And posted it in a high traffic area of our department.

I went to HR and asked for the "Committee Application" so that we could become legitimate, but was told a) that we don't have a "Committee Application", and b) The Justice Committee will never be a legitimate committee no matter how much I threaten to picket during my lunch break. I was then told sternly to remove the flier from it's spot.

elitists

We already have a Wellness Committee, and a Disaster Committee.

The Wellness Committee:
Every other week they meet in a dark room, I've seen it (our department's representative was sick one week, and I got the nod). In this dark room they discuss new ways to make the company eat better, exercise and quit smoking.
We just finished a 4 week Fruit and Veggie challenge...really.
They also put up a poster that said...(Frowning Baby) "Go ahead and smoke...I don't have to breathe." *on a side note, the poster was ripped down recently by one of the night workers, followed by a company wide email threatening termination if any further company property was damaged.

The Disaster Committee:
I have never been to a meeting, but have heard they are focused solely on how the company could prepare itself to continue running if there happens to be a catastrophe.
To their credit, we are close to a major airport... but on the flip side, we have all been warned that sometime in the next couple of weeks we will have a fire drill. They have even placed permanent metal signs in certain areas of the parking lot where the different departments have to meet for a head count. If we have heads.

The Justice Committee:
We are underground thus far, but one day Justice will reign.

With a heavy hand.

Questions from the Public

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Thank you for your lengthy explanation. It is important for future contests to understand the intricate mind of the judge. So, what is the next contest?

Good Question, I think future contests will be just as randomly chosen, and therefore timed as the last one. It can't all be about contests, because that wouldn't satisfy my need to write stories and put interesting things like this up...

Old and Bold and Full of Gold.

And The Winner Is...

I started the poll (to the right) a couple of days ago. As I was writing the three ideas I realized that all three were important factors.

Here is the breakdown of my judging on all submissions...

1) Poodle on a Router (Andrew)- All three qualifications satisfied probably, but you just couldn't see what was happening. Unfortunately it was too hastily done, without consideration of what the picture would look like. Good first effort though, and it certainly started the ball rolling.

2) Dog on a Cell Phone (Julie)- Thank you for this submission. It opened up a level to this contest that I hadn't planned on, and brought some fun to the whole thing.

3) Poodle on a CD (Andrew)- If discomforting the animal was the sole qualification, this is easily the winner. I also think that this was the best someone could do without easy access to an animal (and your friend should be commended for putting up with this).
Above is the other picture sent, which I didn't publish because at the time I decided to pick just one and I thought the other was better. The reason I picked the other was simply because the dog's face seems to be screaming, "What the heck do you think you're doing?". If you scroll down and click on the picture and you can see the dogs's eyes staring Andrew down. After looking at that, the picture above just seems like the owner is either comforting or maybe just holding the dog down. Excellent work (if discomforting animals is your thing).

4) Orangutan on George Foreman Grill (Ben)- I like it. But I never could find the grill.

5) Giraffe on a Watch (Julie)- Email conversation upon receipt-
Me- Funny but low
Julie- Okay, i withdraw this one entry.
Me- Too late, it is already up! The delete function is broken, and at lifeblog we are focused 100% on quantity.

6) Mountain Gorilla on Boom box (Pat)- I thought this was the best of the submissions if you don't take qualification 3 into account. The gorilla looks proud, and why not sitting on a beautiful golden boom box? If all zoo gorillas were given boom boxes, this world would be a perfect place.

7) Grizzly Bear on Sad Copier...Mommy is That Godzilla (Pat)- If this was just held on the creativity factor, I think it is arguable that this one is the winner.

8) Turtle on Automatic Door Unlocking Thinga Majiggy (Julia)- Great. Uses all qualifications, and though I don't have any way of knowing whether it took a long time, it looks like it was a process.

9) Snake on PSP (Fay)- Definitely the most formidable (actual) animal in the contest. Also it could be argued... the most expensive of the (actual) electronic devices used. A professional quality photo and the PSP is in peril...so...it works well.

Basically it all boiled down to numbers 9 and 8.

And The Winner Is!

Number 8.

Here is why, and it wasn't an easy choice...

a)The turtle was taken out of where it resides, which I am assuming is one of the buckets in the background whereas the snake in picture 9 looked like it was in it's aquarium.

b)The turtle doesn't seem to be enjoying any part of this. The snake (without being able to see it's face) doesn't seem to mind.

and I hate to be a stickler, but when tough decisions have to be made, rules come in to play-
c) This contest started with my basic website idea largeanimalsonsmallelectronics.com. It can easily be argued that a turtle is smaller than a snake, but what can't be argued is that the snake was wrapped around the PSP, and the turtle was actually on the automatic door unlocking thinga majiggy. Nice work Julia.

Once again, thank you for your submissions.

Julia, you officially have a t-shirt coming. Please email me your address and t-shirt size, and I will get that right to you.
